Admittedly I'm putting on my tin foil here, but we're in the middle of a perfect media storm and behind it, with very
little media attention, all sorts of other very intense things are happening. In the Middle East for example, the Iraq war is on such a high burn that it's taking out US soldiers at an alarming rate, but more importantly, as
LondonYank has been reporting for
two days now, there's a huge deployment of US troops taking place.
Not to mention all the Bob Woodward revelations about 911 lies and just how much effort there was to warn the White House that something was up. Undoubtedly the White House knew the Woodward and his book was going to be news at this time. If either of these were the lead story right now, it would potentially be creating a very different kind of stir.
Novak. Okay, RandyMI has a
diary this morning reporting that Novak is leaking new information about the Foley story, and we all know that Novak was the tool of choice for outing Valerie Plame, yes? The diary speculates on the civil war that seems to be raging inside the Republican party at the moment. Beyond Novak, of course, is the fact that many conservatives are up in arms about homosexuality, etc., etc. and are calling for the Republican leadership to fall. They're pissed at the Republican Congress and seem to believe they can build a better, more obedient Congress, by cleaning house.
So, tin foil in place, I'm thinking, perhaps the White House saw Foley as expendable (and gay), perhaps they didn't foresee the overall impact on Republicans, perhaps they didn't care, thinking that the next shoe, this expansion of the war, will transcend everything that's happening now....
Maybe not, but to me it's strange that someone named WHInternNow appeared on this site apparently for the first time, on Sept. 5 and commented on a story (not an open thread as reported) about Foley and his homosexuality.
The Real Problem With Foley (0 / 0)
It's not that he's gay. It's that he constantly hits on underage interns on The Hill. You guys talk about an "open secret" well Foley's eye for the young boys in the White House and around the Capitol is what has the Republican bosses scared to death. It's just wrong that this guy can hit on young boys and still be in the leadership.

It's the last comment on the diary and for some reason is not listed in WHInternNow's comment section.
His only other comments appears to been written on Sept. 24, when he claims in his only diary that he IS a White House intern and drops the link to Foley's naughty emails.
I have been reading with interest the various discussions with regard to Congressman Mark Foley. I am a White House Intern and have been in personal contact with Congressman Foley on numerous occasions.
That same day he makes his only other comment, also on Foley and the emails, attaching it to an
Open Thread. So why is a White House intern talking so loosely about what one would assume is fodder for the fire, something anyone well trained and well-connected enough to be an intern in the White House would be careful to keep quiet about.... Or why is he claiming to be a White House Intern? Why would that be believable and then, who else was a White House intern, anyway? Monica, right? Here's some Kossack
discussion of WHinternNow's Foley diary. He registered on Kos in early September, posted only about Foley and disappeared. People originally figured he was a troll.
The website WHInternNow directed people to, as discussed in the above diary, is a Blogspot site set up in July. It's completely anonymous on the surface and had almost nothing on it when it was discovered. There's a Right Wing story in The American Thinker on the subject by DC lawyer Clarice Feldman that zeroes in on the website and raises question about where the story actually came from.
In July a blog appeared, designed it said to trace sex predators. Few posts were made in that month or the following month. All recounted years old stories. Then on September 18, the blog printed the fairly innocuous email exchange between Congressman Foley and an unnamed page. In this correspondence initiated by the former page, Foley asks the former page how he is after Katrina (the boy lived in Louisiana) and asked for a photo. Thus began the latest political kerfuffle which swirls through the final five weeks of the campaign. How likely is it that this site with virtually no readership , few posts and hardly any history or posts of interest suddenly receives this bombshell?
She's all about blaming the Dems of course, but her thinking is interesting nonetheless.
A couple other thoughts: I've been haunted for some time by a story I saw or read about a consulting firm that advertises its ability to create media for things that don't even happen, fake media storms. I'm still trying to hunt the original down. I think it might have been on Democracy Now, but the point of the story was the sophistication with which this White House and other power brokers are now manipulating the media and the public.
I'm just raising the question, what's going on here? Obviously, the Foley story doesn't help the Republican Congress one bit, so would the White House throw the Republican congress under the bus? Why? I don't know, but like I said, perhaps they believe they'll recover control of the news, down the road a bit--before the election, but much closer to November 7 than we are today. You know, when larger, more significant events take place...like the troops that LondonYank is noting going into action in an Israel/Lebanon type of sudden invasion of Iran or Syria or both.
I know: no evidence, all speculation... but... it is odd what's going down. And I do wonder about this attempt on the part of WHInternNow to use KOS to get the Foley story going. Many on the Right think it's a Dem October surprise, and maybe it is.... but, maybe it's a Rovian Heimlich maneuver... one never knows these days. The truth is hard to come by.
