There have been a couple of diaries about the 2006 Weblog Awards, but neither have made the rec list or gotten any attention. Maybe it doesn't matter, but DailyKos has been nominated for Best Weblog and its losing. As of this posting, Little Green Footballs is ahead by over 1200 votes. People can vote once every 24 hours and the polls close at 11:59 PM (US - Eastern) December 15, 2006.
DailyKos has also been nominated for Best OnLine Community and is winning in that category.
It seems odd to me that the Best Blog election isn't getting attention here. I suppose it's a small thing, but The DailyKos is a remarkable community and by voting for it, we're voting for our presence on the net. It seems not only symbolic, but political to me. If Little Green Footballs beats out DKos for Best Blog, the wingnuts will happily use the win to their advantage.
There are other races as well, other categories, including Newsblog and Liberal blog. Personally, I'd like to see liberal blogs take all the categories where they're competing.
I've never asked for a diary recommendation before, but I know if the idea of voting takes hold, and Kossacks vote early and often over the next four days, DailyKos and other progressive sites will prevail. And I think we should prevail. So, I'm asking people to put this on the recommend list, and get out the vote.
